Ho Chi Minh Day 1

Greetings from Vietnam

So we flew from Melbourne to Kualar Lumpar
which was a long and grueling 8 hour flight
it was so difficult to sleep because it was so cramped even though i had taken some sleeping pills to help me fall asleep
it kind of worked
i slept in spurts of 2-4 hour blocks
then arriving to KL
which was super humid
even though it was only meant to be 25 degrees
we caught a connecting flight from KL to Ho Chi Minh
though not without a bit of stress because our Melb to KL flight was a little delayed
and so it was a bit hectic us trying to quickly check in to the next flight

the flight from KL to Ho Chi Minh was only 2 hours
so it wasn't too bad
though it felt time did go a bit slower
and then we arrived 10.10 am local time
got all our stuff and went to the hotel by taxi
and then the taxi driver tried to jib us
and succeeded because he was so annoying and insistent.
after settling in the hotel,
we went to the ben thanh markets
and tried to haggle for stuff
as well as doing some eating
didn't end up buying much
because i didn't exactly want to buy a fake handbag
nor did i want to try on clothes there and then

then we did a bit of wandering to find dinner
the place we went to was pretty good
it had really well cooked fish
and i also had the typical lemongrass grilled pork
though the lemongrass was so strong.
then we did some more wandering for dessert
and settled for french crepes with nutella
and well as a few drinks.

my first impressions of this place?
its damn humid
and the city is just SO busy
the traffic is CRAZY
there's like cars, taxis, motocycles and buses EVERYWHERE
its a bit too hectic for me to live here
but visiting is pretty interesting and fun
and ordering food by pointing and saying ONE
is pretty funny as well.
i also really like drinking from coconuts :)

anyway, i'm off now.

going to go see my aunty whom i have never met before tomorrow
and i have no idea where she is taking me
it was a bit awkward when i called her
she answered the phone in vietnamese
and i was all like 'err.... i'm your sister's daughter' in cantonese
but then it ended up ok.

also, i can't access facebook
so i guess i'll just have to update here.
i should be able to update during these few days
because there's free internet at the hotel
:)

serious blog of epic proportions

let's just say i have A LOT to blog about

and so that's why i haven't blogged lately

because it seemed like a mountain of impending doom, if you will

#1 - i'm moving

exactly like this.

no, i lie

not exactly like this but yes, i am moving.

why?

(side note: owls are cute.)

because well my mum ended up getting a job in campbellfield

so its way too far to drive from west footscray to campbellfield everyday

so we're moving

#2 - packing like crazy

so lately, i've been super busy because i've been packing

not just for moving

but also for asia

and also for CU student leaders camp tmr

so there's some serious deciding on what to pack and what to bring to where

and my room is a complete mess

another reason why i'm packing like crazy

is that

i have to have my room completely packed by tuesday

because that's when i'm going to asia

and we'll be moving

THE DAY

i get back.

stresssssssssss.

and the fact that i don't know where i'll be moving to as well.

where to?

no clue.

somewhere up north,

and because north is more expensive,

we might have to move into a one bedroom place

:S

i don't mind too much

as long as the place is close to the station.

i don't like that i have to pull don't all the decorations in my room

but

i am looking forward to putting up new decorations in my new room.

i really want a dream catcher for my room

just because i think they're pretty.

#3 - work

so i'm currently jobless

i kind of had to quite because i'm moving and it would end up being too far from my work.

i had my last shift last saturday

and i went in yesterday to visit those i hadn't said bye to.

it was quite sad for me,

but quite relieved too.

sort of.

it's a bit strange being unemployed

when i have been employed for the last two years.

but oh well,

need to look for a new job

somewhere near my new house

yes.

#4 - asia

i'm going to vietnam,

hong kong,

malaysia

& singapore

quite excited :)

#5- my birthday

which is coming up soon

is in slight jeopardy

because there so much happening before it

that have no time

or money

to organise it.

and i did want a 21st.

i don't want anything in a bar or a club though

because that ain't my thing.

i wanted like a garden party,

either that or in a park

but i have no idea a park or a garden.

#7 - tv shows

so break down of shows i'm following at the moment are:

community - definitely my favourite show at the moment. i'll say it once and ill say it again, abed is SOOO funny.

the cape - i really like it, it's interesting. plus, i really liked the latest villain, dice. though her power didn't really make sense, you can't use quantum mechanics to predict the future. but we'll let it slide. i also really like how all the characters are multi-faceted. as in the villains and not just evil, there's much more behind it.

the bachelor - because i find it funny, and i find the reviews of the episodes from buddytv.com even funnier, i'm still deciding whether she's an actress plant for the show or she is really that crazy/scary.

how i met your mother - i particularly liked robin in the last episode at the funeral, hilarious.

i've also been meaning to catch up on modern family

but i haven't gotten around to it.

and i've also just started watching the Us remake of Being Human'

still deciding whether i want to continue watching it,

but its an interesting concept though.

i'm having a bit of an avril moment

i'm just listening to her first two albums

it reminds me of when i used to listen to her in high school

and whilst listening

i remember that her first two albums were actually pretty good

(yes, i bought them)

then she turn crap

password annoyance

this is ridiculous

i'm trying to reset my monash password

because i'm forgotten it

because after 3 years they made me change it

and so i'm trying to change it now

but they keep rejecting it

1. plain rejected, because i entered the secret question wrong

2. rejected because my password was based on a dictionary word (really?)

3. it was too LONG

i think this is why i can't remember my password in the first place

sigh.

The Cape

Just started watching 'The Cape'

its a new tv series, which is pretty much a comic book superhero series

and its kind of like Batman

fighting crime and corruption

though

as lame as it sounds

or looks

it's pretty interesting

well, i enjoyed the first two episodes anyway.

plus, i really like the clever naming of 'Orwell'

as in how she's all seeing but faceless

which is the same as Big Brother in George Orwell's 1984

well, i'm hoping that's why she's named that anyway.

plus, Summer Glau is really hot

and she really reminds me of Olivia Wilde.

Chess is also really creepy

the actor, James Frain, is really good at being villains

he was super creepy as Franklin in True Blood

so the basic plot of 'The Cape' is that Vince Farraday

who was just a cop

gets framed as 'Chess' who had assasinated the chief of police

whilst in actual fact he was framed by the actual 'Chess', Peter Fleming

who is slowly gaining control of the whole city

through its police force.

and well Vincent Faraday was 'killed' by an explosion

though in actual fact he survived

but everyone believes him dead, including his wife and son.

he gets rescued by a bunch of circus bank robbers

and eventually gets trained by Max to be 'the Cape'

so that he can take out Peter Fleming

who destroyed his life.

Enter 'Orwell' who is the city's eye

the faceless person exposing police corruption

she eventually teams up with 'the Cape' against 'Peter Fleming'.

the show is pretty dark

but I find it quite interesting

can't wait til the next episode

i've finished catching up on community

and now waiting on the new ep on 20 jan

and i love the show

i keep going on and on about it to others

though they've never watched it before

:)

and i still love abed

who's pretty much a superhuman robot

and abed & troy together

more of my favourite troy and abed endings

also, my favourite episodes thus far are:

1. the modern warfare, paint ball episode

it was a damn awesome episode

add to the fact that i want to play that game of paintball

it'd be so fun

2. the mafia/chicken episode

i love how troy named the monkey 'annie's boobs'

3. the zombie episode

i usually don't like zombie anything

but this was written really well

and was really funny

TV: community

a show i started watching and LOVE just last night

is Community

its so funny :)

its about a bunch of adults at a not-so-highly-rated college

so most of them are returning back to college

(i.e. theres like a 60 y.o. man and a 40 something divorced lady, amongst others)

though two of them actually came from high school

and so the basic plot is that this guy started a Spanish "study group"

so he can date one of the the girls in his class
but one thing led to another and they actually became a Spanish study group.

its funnier than it sounds

my favourite character is Abed

he's so weird and hilarious :)

i especially enjoy the Abed and Troy endings to the episodes

you'd definitely enjoy it, if you liked arrested development

its similar sort of humour

2011; new year, new aims, same girl.

sorry about blogging properly for the end of last year

i was just SO busy.

so this year, i have new blogging aims

i aim to blog at least twice a week

plus one extra tv rant blog a week (if i have something to rant about)

its a lot more relaxed than doing a blog a day

which though i did have fun with

but it became a little tedious by the end.

though, on reflection

i seriously can't believe its 2011 already

the year went by so quickly

that i wasn't even that excited for christmas

because i felt like it was christmas not that long ago.

but this year i think will be really challenging for me

having to juggle student leadership at rmit CU

as well as at church

but i hope i will be ok

since i only have three subjects each semester

hopefully.

though i really need to learn how to manage my time better

honestly,

i don't do it very well during uni at managing my time.

so maybe one of my resolutions this year is to manage my time better

and not be so lazy.

other than that i don't really have any resolutions

because i'll probably break them.

anyway,

survivor nicaragua finale !!

currently watching survivor finale

(so stop reading if you don't want to be spoiled)

but its loading rather slow

so i'm a quarter way through

& i really really really want fabio/judd to win

but i've just finished watching when they commemorate each of the players gone

and they usually say nice things about each one of them

the funniest though was tyrone's

because all holly said was 'tyrone the fireman'

HAHAHA

could they seriously not say

oh yeah, he was a nice guy or something.

also, after i heard naonka's spiel/explanation

i was like 'are you serious?'

she's seriously deluded

like she was saying how she played a smart game and that she was nice.

no. and no.

1. she stole food (stupid move)

2. she's in-your-face and rude, yelling at people for no reason

3. she's a backstabber

4. she's a quitter

5. she knew she was going to quit and that she was going to have food that night, yet she still didn't give up her place for reward so that others can eat.

so no, definitely not a smart game. not even close.

and she's just painted herself as being one of the most rude and selfish people that has ever played survivor.

i totally knew it

he totally played up that he was so stupid and blonde in the beginning

but slowly we are seeing that he is quite smart

i remember that episode when they were talking about freud

and he actually knew about the iceberg/subconscious theory

and it was then i knew that he was playing dumb

so that everyone would discount him as a threat

and last episode

when he saw his mum and he was all emotional

that was so cute

tonight i had to say goodbye to a few people

who i probably won't see anymore

two of them because they are moving back to their home country

singapore & malaysia

which is sad,

and i've realised

i really suck at saying goodbyes

i have no idea what to say

and i just go quiet and awkward.

just watch HARRY POTTER tonight

loved it ♥

though a bit puzzled at the number of friends i know that have neither read the books and are not up to date with the movies

that they would watch this latest one

because they were quite lost at some points

i must admit, i have been catching myself up with the movies

which i enjoy

though its a bit annoying that they can't add all of it into the movies

and some things, they changes a little bit

but i like watching anyway

(btw, if you have not seen the movie and/or read the books , you probably shouldn't read on. you have been warned.)

so, in the movie, it was a bit strange because i always pictured bill weasley with short hair

and being very neat and sleek and all

not some long haired, hippy-eque hair

and all the more because he was marrying fleur

also, i miss tonk's pink hair.

also, though i have read the books

i did forget who died and when.

and so it was sad when hedwig died

though it was a bit annoying that last movie they didnt have the scene where dumbledore talks about the horcruxes

because it did seem like the movie they were pretty aimless

at least in the book, they knew or had a inkling about what the horcruxes were

even though, they didn't know where they are

plus, harry and ginny were supposed the break up at the end of the last movie

which didn't happen.

i kind of want to read all the books again

but i also can't be bother because i know it'll take me agesss

maybe before the last movie then.

i feel so sick right now, i want to cry :(
i've only had like 3 hours sleep
but i keep waking up in the middle of the night to cough out junk in my lungs
and i have to wait about an hour before doctors open
