hi! i'm als & this is my blog.

i write about random things.
these days i write pretty sporatically.
sometimes i completely rave about something, like a tv show but sometimes i write pretty serious things.
i write in short phrases, i like the freedom of not having to write in proper punctuation and grammar.

music of the moment

music that i have been listening to a lot lately:

sarah blasko - as day follows night
i bought this the very first day that it came out, i swear i was probably the first person to buy it at jb on chapel. they had to go to the back and get it for me and it wasn't priced or anything so the person had to get the price for me and everything.
so for this album, i really do like it. compared to the last one (What the Sea wants, the Sea will have) it explores darker, not really darker but deeper themes, but at the same time its actually lighter (though not as light as The Overture and the Underscore). i thought the last one musically was much heavier and this agrees with the fact that i've read she stripped down with the instruments this time.

La Roux
i really really love her music. its an upbeat electronica, and she sort of sounds like Little Boots. but in my opinion better (though i really do like New in Town). what i mean is that though she has an awesome backing electronic beat, her singing brings the songs together, like she doesn't really rely on the beat as much as others would/do. and she also still puts emotion into her singing.
my fav song of hers is Tigerlily, also theres this bit where there's the man speaking, it reminds me of Thriller.

Phoenix -Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
i do really love them. i love love love the song 1901, but yeah i also hear this song a lot in stores and stuff. like in general pants, even in sims supermarket (isn't sims just so super awesome, i'll tell you more reasons why sims is super awesome later).

other mentions:

the noisettes
i haven't heard that many of their songs, but i really love their song Don't upset the rhythm.

the bird and the bee
i heard their songs before and quite liked them (i particularly liked their BeeGees cover How Deep is Your Love). but a song i've been listening to on repeat is Love Letter to Japan, i love the song :)

oh and also Regina Spektor, but i've mentioned that already.

another band i wanted to talk about is The Dead Weather
who they are is basically Jack White from The White Stripes
Queens of the Stone Age
guitarist Dean Fertita
the Kills' Allison Mosshart
and Jack Lawrence from Raconteur.
on paper they should be massively awesome
since they do come from really successful great bands
but for me collaboratively, i find them very very underwhelming.
its not interesting and i don't really feel it at all.

ok. thats my spiel for now.

LOVE.
